Mattress

Time to replace the mattress, has anyone had any experience with Mobile Sleep Componets? They are a quilt top foam construction.

We are looking as well...tagged for reference. We have a Tempurpedic at home but do not want to spend $3,000.00 on a mattress for the coach.

$4-500 for a queen sized 14" thick memory foam mattress at Costco was our choice.  We have a Tempurpedic at home too.  It is not the same as the TP but firm in the same way, very comfortable.  The extra height compared to the brick that was in the coach when we bought it has made no difference.  If you are used to a TP then you have already figured out what sheets and blankets to use to be at a comfortable temp.  Some folks complaing about being hot but we are not.

Very good especially the price, No regrets here.  Close to a year of actual use since we got it.

If you are at the GV come over for a lie-down.

We did the 3" memory foam topper on the original brick for a couple years.  Helped.  But the Novafoam (Novaform) is much better.

A BR ceiling fan really helps the after drive cool down and for general comfort all year round.

+1 on the Costco idea. Add a NovaForm topper from the same place and you have a great, affordable combination. My flaming bride suggests it is wonderful!

We had a Sleep Number type after the initial replacement and it was fine after it cooled down and stabilized from a day of driving. Same problem with altitude but different cause. Warm mattress was harder than cool one and higher altitude was harder than lower altitude. Got tired of the up and down thing and went with a memory foam. We're really happy with it but it is thicker and so the DW needs a step to get in. We got a close-out price on the brand at a mattress wear house in Palm Coast, FL. I believe it was $500 and we've had it a couple of years.

Ditto on the step for DW, but no complaints. She knows where to find her slippers when she gets up to go.

Got our mattress from Sam's Club during one of their $100 off mattress sales. got a nice one for $399 instead of $499. Pulled the RV up front and they carried it out and into the front room. It was still in its plastic cocoon, do it was easy to slide down to the bedroom and almost easy to get onto the frame.

Very comfortable.

We purchased a Sterns and Foster a couple of years ago from one of those chain mattress stores.  It was pretty pricey but it is the only bed we have.  Very happy with it.  We had a sleep Number in our TT and decided not to get another one.  Just us.  :D

These look great. I see they have a showroom in Johnson City, TN, a hour and a half away. I'm going to go check them out and take a test drive. Thanks for posting this!

Just got an email from Sam's Club today. They are selling a Queen size, 10" mattress. The top 3" is a gel-infused layer of memory foam. Only $390 (claimed savings of $684), with free shipping.

This is the one I would buy if I was in the market now. YMMV

I can sleep just fine on a 2" air-pad inside a 2-person tent on a gravel hillside... so I'm probably not the best person to give advice on mattresses....

Having said that, we put a 3" memory foam topper from Costco on the mattress in our '93 (pretty sure it was OEM) and I ride my bike over to the shop to take naps on it.

We had one custom made at Houston mattress Factory.  Got to pick the foam density we wanted and all other aspects of the mattress.  Cost was about $400 and we have been very pleased with it.  Took them about 4 days to make it.  We went with a foam mattress due to weight and comfort.  Also easy to get in and out of the coach if you ever need too--- it bends well.

+1 for Texas Mattress Factory (Houston Mattress Store | Best Sleep | Texas Mattress Makers).  Very happy with custom made pocket coil mattress and acid reflux foundation.  The foundation is a wedge that raises the mattress at head end (ours made to raise 5 in.) that cured Donnas mild acid reflux and according th her, I no longer snore.  Great nights sleep!

I wanted to update the this thread with a short review. We ended up getting a new mattress for the coach from Tuft & Needle. They only do business via the internet. The queen is $600.00 with shipping included.  It arrives in a manageable 70 pound box. The mattress itself is rolled and vacuum packed. Once you break the seal (make sure it's exactly where you want it! :+) the bed expands in seconds. We detected no odors that are common with some new mattresses.

We slept on the bed for the first extended period last week for 7 nights and it was awesome, perfect for both of us.

At home we have slept on Tempurpedic mattresses for 20 years. Our current mattress is a Tempurpedic Cloud.

Suffice to say that when we got home from our trip last week we ordered another Tuft & Needle bed to replace our 2 year old $3,000 mattress. This $600 works better for us.

You can try one of these for 100 nights and return it for a full refund if you aren't 100% satisfied....actually they issue credit and you donate the mattress, sending them the receipt for the donation. Customer service was excellent. It arrives in two days once the order is placed. You can do it over the phone if you prefer.

That's my bedtime story! Safe travels all.

Ditto! Houston Mattress Factory made a custom short queen (-6" in length) for our first "SOB" DP. They also made the mattress we use now in the FT. Both were made with the thickness, density, and covering we requested.

The mattress that came with our FT was an air bed. I neglected to let air out before traveling over some significant hills. The mattress blew out at a point that had been chafed by the vibrations of many miles of travel. The custom foam mattress is a remarkable improvement.

I don't know the brand mattress that came in my 1992 U-240 (previous owner used coach for travel between PA and his daughter in NC and as best I can tell never used the bed) but it is the best mattress I've ever owned.  When I need a mattress I go to Sam's or Costco.  Mattresses are almost impossible to comparison shop.  Major manufacturers sell the same mattress to different retailers under different names so you really don't know what you're looking at unless you compare coil count and other construction components to get an idea what's what.  They deliberately do this.  You might find a mediocre mattress by the same manufacturer under different names at two different outlets and the prices could be vastly different.  Sam's and Costco buy a very median mattress for their outlets...Sealy at Costco and Serta at Sam's (I think).  You aren't getting the best Sealy or Serta at either place but you aren't getting the basic one either.  I think each place may now have a pillow top and a non-pillow top of the same brand.  The price is very reasonable.  Takes all the guess work out of it.  I personally like the Serta non-pillow.
