Good catch, and a happy (i.e. no cost) solution to the problem.

Way back when I first initiated my fruitful discussion with Tom McCloud, he mentioned the larger size hole in the tag axel solenoid valves.  In the thread announcing the replica plungers, in Reply #3, I touched on that fact, saying:

"I believe all the brass HWH valve bodies are the same, regardless of model or year.  They used a different looking electric coil, with a "U" shaped bracket, on the newer coaches.  But, I think the brass part is the same.  Except, that is, for the ones used on tag axle lifting manifolds.  Those have a larger internal port (hole) that the plunger sets down on.  Because it has a wide blue insert, this plunger should also work there!"

Just a guess, but are the solenoids faster action (with larger port) to enable quick tag lift?

Chuck- thanks for this info I had missed it and so had Barry obviously when he was searching for info before getting under and checking. One thing comes to mind though and that is that he was told by HWH that all solenoids are the same and to all like minded people I too would have thought that comment meant including tag as he specifically mentioned the Tag to them it seems. FT also thought they were the same untill JT made some more calls and then found out what is what.
Thanks again and I am sure it is now stuck in the minds of folks with Tags.

Chuck P-- yes I gather that would make sense as it would allow faster build up of air (and dump too). I also forgot to reply to your other question on the Banks. I have the "Stinger" so only the Actuator was replaced with a bigger one but in the "Power Pack" system the Turbo body is also replaced with one of their own.

I just received a couple of pictures from Barry showing the difference on these plungers for Tags. You can see plainly that there is a big difference in the them compared to all the rest.

Thanks for the pix.  First time I've actually seen a tag axel valve body.  Yup, BIG difference - looks to be about 3 or 4 times more flow area.

Not sure what you mean but the air that goes thru these is from the air dryer originally then to tanks and out thru lines. No outside contamination at all but any crap/desiccant/ oil that is not caught by air dryer will have a major affect on the sealing of valve.

Hi

I would like to get (2) sets. And to be correct for the tag I would have to source them thru others correct?

Thanks
Charlie

Re: Replica HWH Plungers Redux

Charlie,

If you will scroll back up this thread to Reply #28, you will see photos of the tag axle solenoid valve body compared to the "standard" HWH valve body.  The only difference is the size of the internal air passage.  The plungers in Tom's kits will work for both types of valve bodies.  You just need to order one "extra" kit to provide the 2 additional plungers (plus a few spares).

Chuck,

Thanks for the info ...I did review post 28 that shows difference and comments. I understand the plunger will work, just did not know what effect it would have on the operation of the tag with the smaller hole. Longer dump cycle when dumping air? Or really not noticeable or am I missing something?

Thanks
Charlie

Re: Replica HWH Plungers Redux

Charlie, the tag needs a faster dump and reset so that is why the hole in valve is bigger compared to bags etc. It needs this faster action and barry  "Beam" found this out after he had left our place and us changing all of his Plungers etc. He noticed that the tag was not operating as before (slower) and did a bit of checking. We did not know of the difference (obviously) when doing them all. Once changed he said it was back to normal. The seat on the plungers is big enough for this larger drilling so they do work fine.
This replacement of originals is a bit awkward to do but the cost of these parts is a big saving over OEM.  have done a few of them now (sets) in 3 coach's but luckily having the pit makes it soooo much easier. Barry said it was a dream compared to sliding under and trying to find a comfortable position (none).

i cannot speak for the foretravels, but i came accross some valve bodies that had larger orfice sizes than the ones my coach had used and i used 2 of them for the rears (on my newell the tag and drive airbags are inflated with the same solenoid valve) so it would raise a little quicker.  the plunger seat worked fine with mine.
