Update on Valterra 3rd valve installation

Finally got the 3rd valve installed. As some of you know, there's a lot of work behind the panels that needs to be done first.
The vinyl hose along the back side is from the overflow pan under the Splendide washer/dryer that we installed a few years ago.

If you mean the hose next to the 3rd valve, no, that is the "if the washing machine leaks" drain hose. We installed the drip pan, per Foretravel suggestion.

Nice job!  I did the same and laid it on it's side in case I needed access to the rear for anything.

John, the only problem with having it at 90 deg is it could get a build up of sludge etc inside the valve body. I think the valve people say any were between 10 oclock and 2 oclock is ok.

John M., I thought about that, but with the valve mounted at High Noon, if I need to get in behind, the valve unbolts with only the hub left on the black pipe.
This picture shows what is behind the black trim. Easy to remove if I need to remove the bottom panel.

I have had my 3rd valve at the 3:00 o'clock position for maybe 3 years now and haven't had an issue with build up so far. I do flush the black tank till no "stuff" comes out. I use a clear 45 deg adaptor to monitor the flushing.

In order to fit the 90* clear fitting and close the door,  I needed to move the valve inboard and that put on the deck surface.

As long as the main tank valves are holding, you can always take the 3rd valve apart and clean it out (if necessary).

John H, you did read that someplace, but being it's a 3rd valve and easyly removed for cleaning I see no problem with what way it's installed. JMHO

Dick, Nice job. Neat and tidy.  We have a SeeLevel display at this station. it is interesting to see the black tank empty and then fill from the gray tank and then empty again.  it takes more time than I expected to fill the black tank back up to 20% or so.

A caution... I have noticed that if you have the 45 or 90 degree fitting on and a hose attached to it and tug a bit on the hose the angled fitting can come loose.  Always double check. No surprises!  :o

Thanks Roger for the kind words and the caution. I'll be sure to keep an eye on the angle fittings. Don't know if I'll keep them hooked up or connect when I need to dump.
The SeaLevel display is on our list, just didn't make the cut this year. Along with the Progressive surge protector that we bought at the Tampa RV show last year.

I would move that Progressive up to the top of the list.  I put ours in, not too hard, just make sure everything is off (gen and landline unplugged) including the inverter and disconnect the neg cables as a safety precaution.  Use SO grade wire, very flexible. It was a snug fit in the space at the foot of the bed but it fits.

We usually find at least one campground a year where it prevents a connectoin to a miswired post.  In A Florida State Park it stopped us from connecting. I called the office and the person said someone would be around the next day (Monday).  A fellow showed up in less than five minutes.  He said when electrical stuff didn't work it got bumped up. He opened the box and sure enough just as the EMS error codes predicted it was wired wrong.  He said that someone in that site had mentioned to the office the week before that they felt tingling in their hand when they were getting into their fiver.

I agree with moving up the Progressive project, but we are about ready to leave this afternoon or tomorrow for our trek to sunnier Florida for the winter.
Funny thing about Florida SP. In Dec 2015, we were staying in Bahia Honda SP, Florida Keys. Had problems with the 50 amp post dropping out 1 leg. Not a major, just annoying. Brought it to the attention of the Ranger office as we were leaving.
Well we were lucky to get the same site again in Feb 2016. Same problem, just a bit worse. This time I raised my concern a bit more and they had the Ranger park electrician with in an hour.  Unbelievable what he found inside the box. The GFI was bad, loose wires just hooked together, and a bad ground. Problems were fixed and we were good again.
So far, that has been the only bad post that we found in SPs.

Until you guys get the Progressive unit installed, you might consider carrying a portable outlet tester.  There is some excellent info on Beamalarm about building a DIY version.

50 Amp Outlet Tester

OR, if you are lazy (like me) you can buy one.  I know many Forum members carry and trust the Power Pal.  We bought ours just before our most recent 5-week outing, and I used it at every stop.  Very first thing, before I did anything else about parking or positioning the coach, I hopped out and plugged in the Power Pal.  30 seconds later, I knew if it is safe, or not.  EASY!

"Until you guys get the Progressive unit installed, you might consider carrying a portable outlet tester." and Roger's comments, we  ran out to Camping World this afternoon and picked up the SurgeGuard 50amp surgeguard. I know that's not the best one out there, but hopefully it will do until I get the Progressive installed.

Thanks again to you guys.

We like the portable Progressive.  Once ordered; it's delivered then plug it in.  No install.  We plug it in as soon as we pull in the spot b/4 leveling, extending slides and before we shut down the engine.  I think 3 or 4 spots in 4 years have been problematic.  :D
