Travel Mode issues Update

7 months ago I posted a topic reference Help with Travel Mode.  Many of you posted ideas and recommendations.

Travel Mode

After 7 months of on and off with the problem we were able to narrow the problem down with the help of Red Tractor, MAZ and Gary Omel.  The problem is the protection valve on the right tank.  Redtractor recommended we check the protection valve on the right tank.  After reviewing the air schematic we found the protection and seen that line 27 feeds the rear manifold.  I removed line 27 from the protection valve and no air.  With the recommendation of Gary Omel I gave the valve a good rap with my brass hammer and the rear end came up.  Time to get a new valve.  Gary suggested I take the valve apart and clean it up.  Don't know how much a new one runs, but I am looking to replace it with a new one then work on the old one and keep it as a spare. Anyone know the part number on the valve or where I can find the part number.

Thanks to all that helped,
John M

John, take it apart as they are pretty straight forward. It may just need cleaning. I think it has a diaphragm and spring so may just have hung up.

JohnH,
We will do that.  We are here for 5 days. Should it be lubricated after cleaning?

Here is the part number (and a photo) of the one on our '93.  May or may not be the same on your coach.

Thanks Chuck.  We will compare tomorrow and see how it matches.  Sorry you are having problems,  But I'm sure MOT will stand behind their work.  They may need to re-evaluate the mechanic that did the work.

Thanks again,  John M.

John we just got back in. Make sure you remember exactly how it comes apart and clean it out. You can wipe it all with a rag with oil on but do not lube any of it. Make sure all air is expelled from system (that tank ). these are pretty non destructible valves so must have just hung up so make sure all is in good condition. If I can get under coach I will see if I can read a part # if you want. Lots of snow now.

John, here I think is the page showing that valve and the PT # from FT. It does google to a Haldex part and there are a few types of them but this one is at bottom of the google found part. Use Haldex site.            part # N-15759-DG

Where did you find that parts list and photo?  Looks like a handy reference document.  Source?

JohnH,
I appreciate the help, but you don't need to go under your coach in the snow.  I am in Florida on a concrete slab with 80 degree weather.  I'll go under my coach and see what I have and take a picture.
Thank you so much for your help,

I was able to go under the coach today after I made the coach safe to go under.  I was not able to go under yesterday due to the rain all day.  I was able to take a couple of pictures of the valve.  It seems to be a Meritor WABCO 9348990060.  On the body of the valve it had stamped on it N157590G.  I found the Meritor guide and could not find my valve (attached).  I can't seem to find a replacement or a cross reference anywhere on the internet.  I don't know the open and close pressures of the valve which would be helpful to find a replacement.  I might have to wait till I get home to remove it and take it apart and clean it or take it to a truck repair parts department and have them search.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, John M

Looks like a really rough casting.  NAPA is great for big truck stuff, even in the backwoods.

When I initially encountered the problem I was at a rally at Vero Beach, FL. We came home after a week and the day after we arrived we took off to Marco Island for the holiday.  I am just getting to replacing my pressure protection valve.  Attached is a photo of the assembly.  The two way check valve was loose at the joint marked.  In the next picture I took the valve apart and foung moisture corrosion.  Hopefully I will be able to clean it and save it as a spare.  The last picture is the new PPV by Haldex.  I have a question, in the Haldex installation instructions it states to use a drop of Loctite to lubricate the threads.  It clearly states not to use pipe compound or teflon tape.  I initially was going to use the brush on teflon pipe joint compound to install. Does Loctite make a special thread lubricant or are the talking about the red or blue Loctite?

Thanks in advance,  John M.

Odd that the instructions don't specify a particular product... Loctite makes many thread sealants, thread lockers of different strengths, etc. Many of which would act as a lubricant during installation. My rule of thumb is, that if it seals on the threads (as opposed to a compression type fitting), then I use a thread sealant. For the coaches air system, I use Loctite 567 carefully applied so as not to risk getting into the valve or into the system. I would be reluctant to use a thread locker in that application, especially if it is pipe thread. Also, I am careful when positioning the fitting or valve so as not to have to back it off to position correctly. Just my two cents...

And mine (2 cents) is that the reason they say not to use a brush on type sealant is that most people put a lot on AND at the beginning of the threads. I use it sparingly and put it about 1/8th inch from the end so none goes into port.
By the way, looking at that "corrosion" I would bet that it is desiccant from your air dryer. Have a look in the pipe fittings and see if it looks the same.
