Water Fill Solenoid relay

Happy New Year.....
Quick question.. The relay for my water fill solenoid decided it was time to fail in the on position no less... Can someone tell me where the relay is located on a '97 U320? That would sure help me... I don't feel like digging around today.... I disconnected power at the solenoid so I have water until I get the relay fixed... I did a forum search to no avail.

Ted,

It is located behind the white fiberglass cover located on the rear wall of the big basement bay on the drivers side. You may be able to whack it and jar it loose. Depending on the relay it should also have an actuation button that you can push to manually activate it.

2-Way Brass Solenoid Valve NBR Seals DIN Gas Air Water Oil Electric Pneumatic...

This might help with a replacement also.

Thanks Mike, It is stuck on... guess can't complain worked good for 20 years..The same panel where the circuit breakers are...

Be sure to get a solenoid valve that is listed as drinking water safe. Many brass fittings have some lead in them. There are stainless steel ones out there that are about the same price.

Ted,

As a side note your coach OEM should have the Parker Hannifin fill valve. The part #12F24C2148A3F which is still made. For a rebuild kit add a "R" to the end of the vale number. I doubt you have used up that valve, it may need to be taken apart every 5 or 10 years and soaked in vinegar to get the calcium build up out though. This is a pilot valve that requires low amps to open and has a larger flow rate.

Mike, Thanks for your help..... Sorry for some misunderstanding my valve works fine... The problem is the 12 volt relay to power the valve is stuck on thus keeping the valve open. When I disconnect the power at the valve it closes. ......I can't find any references to the water fill valve in any of the factory wiring diagrams I have. Even with both "Water Fill" switches disconnected the valve is still powered and the little green light above the switches stays on.. I am thinking the two "Water Fill" switches are powering a relay some place.... and it has to be the relay stuck on. I did not have a chance to check out the relay in the big bay today.

This is what the water pump power and water fill valve relays look like under the white cover in my '99. Not sure your relays will be the same, but the wiring should be similar.

Mine look like that too, same location. The momentary switches for the fill valve complete a ground path which latches or releases the relay. Latched it provides 12v to the relay. I added a level sensor and relay that completes a ground to the relay to close it when filling the tank. Works great. FT added it as standard in 02 or 03.

Our water pump latching relay is a Standard LR35. This is not a common relay to find and has its own wiring pin outs, so if you have this relay, keep track of wires. We carry a spare, and the same relay is used for our inside ceiling light.

Here is a 16 amp latching relay. Two ways through it, one normally open, one normally closed. Might need a higher current capacity for the water pump but this would work for lights and the fill valve..

Is this the relay? Has a 3 year warrantee.

That one doesn't look like the ones in my coach anyway. And it doesn't appear to be a latching one.

They look like this one, two steps up to a flat top. They use a momentary pulse to latch or release.

Yes that is the Standard LR35 latching relay we bought from Amazon 3 years ago for $23.60. It mounted with top of relay attached to board and separate terminal ended wires attached. Ours was also sold by Amazon directly. Some coaches use the narrow stepped relay that others are talking about, which may be more durable, but switching wires & mount between different style relays may be a bit of chore. Swapping like for like may be more straight forward.

I believe Barry is right, looks like a latching relay reading further. It uses a different socket than the ordinary Bosch relay but it shouldn't be hard to find a use for one. So two ways to skin this cat. Good lesson here, one I learn over and over, our coaches are not all the same, model to model, year to year, even within years.

What is what looks like a button in the middle? Is that so you can work it manually or is an indicator showing it energized? What is it's? A learning moment.🤓

To add to your question it looks like it is only rated for A/C power

I don't have one of these so the thing in the middle could be anything. ... it is a test actuator and indicator to tell what stat it is in. The specs say that this works on 12 volts to activate the latch. Probably works on 24 volt too. The power ratings are for 220 AC volts and 16 amps. AC or DC doesn't make any difference, it is just a switch. Run 12 v through it, 16 amps max.

"Specifications: 1NC + 1NO 16A, 12V DC coil, AgNi contact"

The 20 Series are available as DPST-NO or SPST-NO + SPST-NC step relays. On each successive energisation of the relay coil the contacts will change state thus providing a step or "flip flop" sequence of operation. An override test button allows manual advancement of the step sequence and individual mechanical flags provide visual indication of contact status.,Typical applications would include the control of lighting where push on push off or sequential operation is required, automatic opening and closing of doors, gates, etc. Use in portable or battery powered equipment requiring contact status to be maintained without continuous supply to the coil and functions where manual override operation is desirable."
