Interstate Commerce Commission ICC switch

During our Reno trip I had the ICC switch latched the headlights off. I frantically cycles it several times till the  headlights remained on for the duration of the trip. I'm thinking the relays are damaged in my coach and wish to replace them. I seem to recall the box in the center console area when I was replacing the expansion valve. If anyone has any info it would be appreciated. My headlight loads have been reduced with current headlights being LED and light bar only uses power to activate separate light bar control relay circuit

Well this has become a top priority. Up to now it would come and go but I no longer trust using the headlights. I have isolated problem to the ICC switch circuit. Hi and Low beam make no difference. It actually with headlights in the off position switched on the headlights. They happened to be on Hi beams and I saw the blue indicator flash on and off severals. I am now smelling hot circuit behind dash intermittently. During our past trip I opened dash  up but was unable to locate any controller. This seems isolated to near the steering wheel dash area. No relays in that area that I have found so far? The headlight relay is in the circuit breaker panel and is cold to the touch. Im thinking that this ICC may be inside of the smart wheel control box so that is what ill be searching for unless some one has a better idea. With the headlights in the failed position flipping the Hi/Low beams makes no difference. Tapping the ICC switch will enable them to work or fail.

No help on this one Scott but will follow the thread to the end to see the cure if I need it myself.

Scott I guess from reading you post your headlights are controlled threw the smart wheel,
mine are not. You could put a switch in the dash somewhere for a temporary repair or a
permanent repair. Hopefully the dimmer doesn't go through the smart wheel.

Yes the ICC switch flips what ever the headlight is doing. If its off it turns it on and Vice a versa, on the right side of the wheel is another ICC switch for the running lights. Same thing. Hit the switch and it reverses momentarily what the running lights are doing, dimmer is next to the headlight switch for dash lighting and hi/lo dimmer is in the turn signal switch, but again the hi/low doesn't seem to effect it at all so I've almost disqualified it for being a problem or multiplier. First thing is probably to read up on the smart wheel controller and find it. It was a manageable problem till it turned on the headlights uncommanded.

On our coach the smart wheel controller is under the false floor in the center cabinet in the dash. Have replaced ours when headlight connector overheated.

Well to my surprise I have resolved the headlights shutting off when using the ICC switch. Today I opened up the smartwheel controller expecting to fine a failing relay. They are all 2000 vintage and show signs of age with discoloration, but to present heat damage or burnt smell. I finally turned on the roof top  air conditioning since it like a 100 degrees and while I was waiting for the lockout time to pass before my eye I hear and see the problem. The luminescent panel for the air conditioning controls was crackling and lightly smoking. Visible arcing. I unplugged the two very small power wires and all was restored to normal. The panel is now dark and I will look into replacements. The Smart steering wheel controls horn, headlights, tail lights, ICC switches for both, windshield wipers, intermittent timer for wipers, washer and all threw one wire. That box identifies the signal from each switch and controls what is happening. With the low power arcing going on it was too much noise for it to do it's job properly. With the noise removed I cycled the headlights a 100 times with no issues and  running lights also. Also checked out all the other functions with no other faults present. Would of never guessed that was going to be my issue.

Scott there is a post on repairing the luminescence lighting from information given by Xtreme. I can't remember whether it was a complete repair or a work around of the bad area.

We had a similar issue with the arcing around the generator switches.  I turned out the issue was resulting from a bad light bulb in one of the instrument gauges.  Removed a blackened bulb and replaced it and haven't had this issue since.
