2000 U320.  Can't find both primary and secondary filters.  The pic shows the one I found in the starting battery spot.  I believe this must be the primary because I have a spare FS1001 which I think is the secondary per a previous post of spare parts but I do not have the FS19592 in picture?  What is the clear bottle function?  What is the bag thing hanging underneath?  I think it has a hole in it.  if this pic is the primary filter, I am assuming the WINN 200200 has been replaced with this setup.  Would not surprise me, knowing what I have learned about previous owners.

If someone can point out where the other fuel filter is, I would appreciate it and any other information including correcting my assumption.  I'm wanting to get a set of filters handy and know where they are, trying to learn some basics.

I had a Winn Fuel filters that I was not unhappy with but I went with the Fass Fuel system that I
changed to as I think it is a better filter system.

I went with the Davco filter system to replace the air sucking Racor unit. I've had lots of experience with this type filter in a fleet environment. The clear cover tells you exactly what the filter element condition is. It acts as both a primary and secondary filter so you only have one element to deal with. It is self priming on my ISM engine. The only issue is finding a place to mount it where you have enough clearance to remove the cover.

It seems most are going with the Parker Racor 790R30.  However, it looks like 'old guy' has the Racor RK 12963 integrated kit and per the literature, looks to be a replacement for the Winn 200200.  I'm not wanting to just go cheap but at $160 vs $550, I would rather buy more diesel and go somewhere if the RK 12963 is a good choice.  Anyone care to help me understand the difference so I can make a more informed decision? Thanks again!!

Im happy with it. If I ever change it will be for a FASS system. Yes they can be problematic if you dont maintain. 

Did you actually bypass the fuel filter located nearer the engine or do you still have two inline fuel filters? It seems wise to me to have two individual fuel filters.

Yes, I left the FS1001 engine secondary fuel filter in place which is a 10 micron filter. Since the Davco element is a 7 micron filter theoretically the fuel going into the FS1001 will be cleaner than it is capable of any additional filtering. They do make a block off plate if anyone wanted to remove the secondary filter.

Why would you not use a courser 10-30 micron PRIMARY filter followed by a finer secondary filter.

Any other design makes no sense.

Yes, first question is what YOUR engine's fuel system requires in terms of micron rating of filtration.

In any case, the primary fuel filter should have a courser micron rating than the final.
