Smart TV to Sound System in IH-45

I replaced the 12 year old 47 inch Panasonic TV in the front of IH-45 with a new Samsung OLED 55 inch.  It fit snug but looks great and plays great.  My old eyes enjoy it very much.  There was only one HDMI Cable going somewhere from the Dropdown ceiling mount, so we connected it to the HDMI ARC and turned the sound system on back in the back.  No JOY.  The sound system works very well playing a local FM station.  Great sound from speakers all over the coach.  So today I decided to track down the way that Foretravel hooked the TV at the Front windshield to the Integra DTR-30.4 Receiver in the closet in the rear of the coach.  In the drawing that Foretravel furnished for my build number which is probably for a different location for the Living room TV since it refers to a cabinet below the Living Room TV.  I found a panel above the windshield that is removable.  Once removed I was able to see what the HDMi cable was connected to.  Strapped to a support behind the removable panel was a HDMI Extender Receiver with a Data Cable running somewhere.  The Data Cable was labeled "LRTV 63 Data".  So I went to the back closet and found the HDMI Extender Transmitter with a short HDMI Cable and the other end of the LRTV 63 Data Cable which was a CAT 5 or 6.  The short HDMI cable was not connected.  So I assumed it would need to get into the Integra DTR-30.4 which powers the speakers in the coach.  I found an HDMI ARC receptacle that was open, so I connected it there. I made sure that power was supplied to the HDMI Extender transmitter.  I then went back up front and checked the TV.  The Samsung Smart TV now recognized the DTR-30.4 by model number and it became an option for TV Sound which I selected but was disappointed to find that no TV sound came out to the speakers.  I checked the manual for the TE HDMI Extender System and it showed a connection from a TV HDMI ARC to an audio surround receiver HDMI ARC.

So it appears that I now have:
1.  a connection from Samsung TV ARC to the DTR-30.4 Receiver ARC.
2. I am able to select the DTR-30.4 as an option for Sound output from the Samsung TV
3. The DTR-30.4 has buttons to select several options, AM, FM, others, and one for TV.

However I am not able to get TV Sound out of the receiver even though the FM and AM buttons work. I have not tried the CD Player that is mounted above the receiver, but it probably works also, but NO TV.

Maybe someone here has replaced their TV and can assist with some things to check.

Have you tried the different encoding/format options on the TV for the ARC/eARC outputs?

When you watch the blu-ray does the sound work correct through the coach speakers?

When trying to watch either local channels  or something from the TV you have no sound from the receiver?

Have you tried pressing and holding for few seconds the top left button from the URC 880Z remote that is labeled living TV or something similar.  I am not at the coach to see exactly what the top left Icon is saying.  I am referring to the button to the left of the top left icon.

I do not have a blue-ray unless it is the CD Player mounted in the rack just above the Receiver.  I will bring a  Movie to try in that box.
Also I have not found the URC 880Z remote,  I see a remote referenced in the manual for the receiver.  I will look for it when I return to the coach.  Thanks, it appears that somethings are only able to do with the remote.  I just checked Google and I do have that remote, I did not know why but thanks for bringing it up, I will see if I can charge the batteries in it and make it function when I return.

It appears that somethings were taken out of the rack because of the way some cables were not terminated.  But by using the FM Radio, I was able to determine that all of the speakers appear to operate, I can select whole house which adds speakers in bedroom and closet to the Living area speakers which work normally.

The cd/DVD player will also play blu-ray disc's. Button on remote is called blu-ray.  You have to hold the button next to the icon you want for a short time  until a message comes up saying you don't have to aim remote at the TV.

Push the TV/CD button on receiver you will hear TV source sound on coach speakers with the source of the sound being your Living Room TV. That is as long as everything to make that work is working correctly.

Yes, I have pushed the TV/CD button on the receiver.  When I turn the receiver on, with the TV button on, it will change the TV to try to play sound from the TV to the receiver automatically, if the TV is on playing sound through the TV speakers, it will automatically change to the DTR-30.4 in the settings and the sound goes away somewhere in the etherland.  Not to the coach speakers.

The HDMI ARC connection could be working one way to the TV since the TV knows that a DTR-30.4 is connected to it.

Newer smart TVs are likely going to support protocols that the older coach A/V doesn't understand.  You might need to research what encoding/protocols/formats the coach equipment can handle, then see if the TV has that/those as options to try for sound output to the connected equipment.

I'm definitely not well-versed in this, I've just observed Steve fighting with our home LG TVs (and our Roku) to make TV sound come out the subwoofer and sound bar.

At this point I am thinking that the HDMI Extender may be the problem.  It does appear to work at least one way, from the receiver to the TV.  I have checked all the connections for the extender and they seem to match what the schematic shows although some cable numbers and the locations seem to be for another coach Living room design.  But electrically appear to match ok.  Got to figure that the extender pair is at least from 2012 or 2013.  Maybe a newer design or current model may be in order.  Thanks Michelle and Jack for your thoughts.

UDATE:

I am back at the Motorhome.  The player above the receiver in the rack at the rear closet is an Integra Blueray DVD Player.  I can play a Blueray Disc and I can hear the sound through the surround sound speakers throughout the coach.  However I cannot seI e video, just a nice blue color and a caption that states it is a DVD and coming in on HDMI.  I can control the sound of the coach speakers with my Samsung remote that came with the new TV.  I believe that is because I enabled the ARC and CEC options.
I can turn on the Integra DTR-30.4 with my Samsung remote by selecting the DTR-30.4 as a connection same as the TV Speakers.  I can control the volume setting with my remote, but there is no sound coming out the coach speakers.  I can switch back to the TV Speakers and sound is normal.  It appears that I am only getting minimal data for control and switching via the HDMI Extenders.  All of the connections to the HDMI Extenders TX at the Surround sound receiver, the DTR-30.4 and the HDMI Extender RX at the Television.  I could buy a newer HDMI Extender System, some are wireless using 5ghz and some are like the ones I have using Ethernet cable between the TX and RX units.

I bought the TV from Best Buy.  At this point I think I need to get a young man or lady on their Geek Squad with more current experience on sound systems and connections than I have.  I really do want to use the surround sound with the TV even though the TV Speakers are not too bad, better than some I have had.

When you are trying to watch the blue ray, on the key digital matrix switch the top left control should be on the third light.  1st is Sat1, 2nd is Sat2, 3rd is Blu-Ray.  If this is not on the correct spot the TV will not receive video input from the Blu-Ray,

It depends on what the source is for the TV, as to how the receiver gets the sound for your coach speakers.  If the source is what is back in the closet, the sound for the receiver comes from there.

If the source is your Front TV, such as local TV channels or say Netflix, then the sound is transmitted from the TV HDMI2 / ARC connection, through the extender back to the receiver HDMI output as long as the receiver has TV/CD as the source.  If this is not working like that then it is possible that something got turned off in the receiver (don't know if it automatically works, or if Foretravel had to set the receiver to work that way) or the front or back extender has gone bad or has lost power.

Maybe we need to talk on the phone?

I think this is where your problem is.  The receiver's HDMI output  (Out w/ ARC) should go to the extender.
The HDMI output #1 from the KD-4x4 should be connected to the receivers HDMI IN1

I do have the Extender HDMI cable connected to Receivers HDMI Out w/ARC.

I am not sure about the HDMI cable from the KD-4x4 to the Receiver's HDMI IN1, that cable may be missing.  I found this on my print from your directions above and now am anxious to head back up and check it out.
From my picture of the HDMI ARC Output  of the DTR-30.4 Receiver, I see an open HDMI just to the left and I believe that is IN1.

I am back at the coach.  I have made sure all connections are as you related and as the print I have indicates. Also I did run an HDMI cable from Output 1 of the Matrix Swtches to the Receiver Input 1 and I have the Blueray Player connected to Input 3 as the print shows. I can play a Blu-ray Disc and the sound will go to the Receiver speakers throughout the coach, but the video will not go through the HDMI extenders to the TV.  I can play the TV and sound comes out the TV speakers but will not operate the Surround Sound  coming from the DTR-30.4 Receiver.  I have checked and replaced the HDMI Cables that go from the Receiver HDMI ARC Output to the HDMI Extender TX and from the HDMI Extender RX to the HDMI 3 ARC on the TV.  I have made sure that the External Device settings for the TV have the Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) on. and Under the Expert Settings for the Sound,  I have the HDMI-eARC mode set to Auto.    I also tried it with the HDMI-eARC setting set to OFF.

My Opinion at this point is that the HDMI Extenders are not operating with this new TV.  I do not know if the old TV would have worked because I looked at the equipment closet and could see unterminated cables as if some equipment was removed.  I figured the PO had some sort of DVD player or something connected to the unterminated cables.  So I cannot verify that the HDMI Extenders were working or not with the old TV.

I can order a pair that operate wireless or a pair that use my existing data cable.  Your thoughts?

I agree, thank you.

I examined the ethernet cable and it is labeled Cat 6 and appears to be well made.  So I am sure I will go with a wired replacement, just need to find a pair that someone is using for a similar application.  Most just use them to send from a laptop to a big screen.  Our application is bit more demanding.  We are sending and receiving data both directions with the ARC function.  They run anywhere from $50 to $350 or so a pair.

We are on a one week trip. My front TV will work for a while,  then go black. Message will pop up saying no connection.  Then after a few minutes picture will be back. Then it all starts over again.  Since I had a HDMI go bad on the slide TV, I am going to replace these first.

Sorry Turbo, I have been away from Forum dealing with doctors etc.  No my new front tv does not connect to the surround sound at all now.  I have replaced the HDMI extender with a highly rated new units.  The TV says that no HDMI cable is connected even thought all the blinking lights on the old extender and the new extender indicate that a connection is live.  I bypassed the switches at top and cabled the Extender transmitter directly to the HDMI ARC output of the surround sound receiver.  Considering switching the transmitter to the TV and the RX box to the receiver at the back.  I saw that swapping the TX and RX worked for someone on a a
help site I checked.  To do this I will have to remove the panel behind the Drop down TV above the windshield.

I also changed all the HDMI cables to new "high speed" cables.....no joy.

I will send some more thoughts later today.
