Started the process of removing the old graphics from my 1993 U240. It's my first RV and I've had it less than a week. It's needs some cosmetic updates, but the cabinets and counter/tabletop, as well as the over the top high quality, will always be in style.

First, I would like to welcome Butch to the forum.  You will find much here to help you maintain and enjoy your coach.  One thing that will help is if you fill in the details of your coaches model, year, layout code & or build number in the profile, so when you ask a question others will know how to answer.

Now what did I do to my coach today?  It's a small thing but removed all the leaded glass panes in the cupboard doors, an easy job,  cleaned them with Dawn soap and a soft brush, cleaned the mirror glass and reassembled.  Amazing how bright they are cleaned.

I discovered a cardboard box with all sorts of information about upgrades and features on our U225. A previous owner (I think I'm #3) had installed turn signals with audible warnings that are actually pretty cool. Easy to listen to and all. Another paper indicates that he also installed "side indicating turn signals) but I haven't checked them. I also found the data on the Banks Stinger and on the PACBRAKE (which is not the latest model, unfortunately). It's always nice to discover something that a previous owner installed; kinda like Christmas. :)

The new HDTV antenna arrived and while installing it I noticed that the cable leading to the fitting that goes through the roof had frayed almost through in several places and had come completely apart at the roof fitting. Which explains zero tv reception over New Year. Just bought a new cable from Radio Shack plus new boots and will install them tomorrow. Fortunately the new antenna does not interfere with anything when stowed.

You can buy the PRXB as an upgrade for a significant savings as opposed to the entire kit and swap it out... Like $800 vs. $1150.00.

Dramatic improvement...

I'll put that in the budget... right now the big purchase will be 600 watts of solar panels, the regulator, the combiner, and the inverter. So far the retarder seems to be pretty good. The PRXB should be awesome.

Today's projects were - 1st - Remove the VDO analog speedometer from the dash (reminded me of a service dept tongue in cheek saying "we design with service in mind".  2nd - removed some of the 1/2" wide decal stripes on the passenger side of the coach. 3rd - replaced the "missing" AM / FM radio antenna on the R/S rear cap.
That's all folks !

Lubricated the PACBRAKE. Started working on the trailer electrical connection (which disables the brake lights when a trailer is plugged in) but decided it was too cold to lay on the cement (36F). Plus my fingers started to get numb. At least I managed to lubricate the fasteners so I can get it off easier next time.

Removed, cleaned & re-caulked shower. Second time in two years. Silicone just does not stick very well to that plastic.  >:(

Same thing happened to me. Cleaned everything and used the proper silicone but it never (4 days) cured. Called 3 M "What is date on tube" told her it was one that indicated 3 months beyond "too old" date. She said that this is one product that has a very specific "to old") date. Cleaned every thing again and reapplied new. All OK after two years. She said to be sure to get the right stuff.

Working on the coach in the first really nice day this year. Temperature 58F with sunshine and no wind (for a change). Issues are:

1. Tow dolly lights disable some coach lights and disable cruise control Problem is that previous owner connected the ACC lights to the brake lights. This created some problems. I removed the trailer connector (rusted fasteners, too) and the electricians tape, found where he had connected two wires together, cut them, determined which was the actual brake light, connected only that wire to the correct terminal.

2. Some rear lights not functioning properly on the coach itself (independent of the ACC/brake light issue). Removed the inside cover over both port and stbd tail lights and identified burned out lights. Bought new lights and replaced. On our '93 U225 the light assembly cover is held in place by two small screws which must be removed before the cover can be taken off. The DW found and removed them. Then the light assembly itself has three tabs which must be pushed UP in order to remove the assembly and access the lights.

3. Identified the voltage regulator on the alternator but did not try to remove it. Looking through the instructions carefully before I determine whether the alternator itself should come out anyway.

Much more fun in semi-warm weather with no wind!!!

Re-enforced main awning fabric attached to roller with aluminum pop rivets.  One pop rivet on the awning had pulled away from the fabric completely and 3 others were starting to pull away.

we are at Xtreme along with Carol- Jeff and Bob Magee and wife and today I took off our 6' centre bay door and stripped it of parts and  steamed a replacement door decals off and rebuilt that to suit ours. Surprise surprise it works great and fits perfect when I installed it. Rance wants to know if I will work with them as he said I did it in great time !!! Hopefully we can get it into the paint shop  tomorrow pm and by thursday on our long way home. Boy, are these guys busy, and great work too.
We have really enjoyed these few days here in Nac and meeting everyone, and today I bought 24 LED puck lights from FOT to change over the others--not cheap but it is done!! Now just the rest of the thinlites to do once I get home and pick up the rolls of LED Peirce has sent to me then we are total LED inside and out (except for the bay lights). Lowes delivered the fridge today so that is sitting in the Dining area for our trip home so will have to secure it somehow. Ruth is really scratching her head trying to figure out how to get our regular amount into this small cabinet. We will have to cut back a lot.

John,

Please consider sticking around for an extra day or two.  Steve and I are currently talking about arriving in Nac on Friday to beat the weekend DFW shopping traffic.  We'd love to meet you and Ruth.

We did nothing to our coach today, but Sunday we reinstalled 4 of the 8 upgraded MCD blinds and replaced 6 of the bay halogen bulbs with LED bulbs from Lowes (nice price, but not warm in color temperature enough and too "bright/harsh on the eye" for our interior ceiling lights).  And we measured for a replacement TV.

Let's see.  I moved the new shower valve and bathroom vanity faucet from the house to the coach.  Hope to get those installed by the end of the weekend.  Looks like rain here in Central Texas so it'll be a good rainy day project.

And carpet should be on it's way to Nac for installation!

well Greg says we are in the paint shop at 7.30 in the morning. It is all prepped ready for them and I took off the step cover to paint too while the door is done. I rebuilt that a year ago in mexico and spray bombed it there so never really matched. Jennifer Stalling wants me to stay and clock on a time card while they are so busy!!! I have enjoyed doing the work and learning a bit of this job.
My rear deflector for air intake has been a hit with some members and a few have made sketches etc to do when they arrive back home as they think it does make sense especially were it rains a lot.
Steve and Michelle, not sure that I can convince Ruth to hang around any more as she really is missing her cat (after 4 months away) but will see what I can do. This would make a good reason to come visit our beautifull area of BC Canada if we did not meet now!!!

I installed a third dump valve, repaired a small hose to the coolant tank for the generator and cleaned the slide mechanism for the aria toilet. Have just returned home from a 2 1/2 month stay in Nebraska. The aqua hot did great, kept us nice and toasty. Getting ready to go to a tractor show this weekend in Leesburg Fl. Really enjoyed working on the coach in short sleeve shirt. Great to be back in Florida.

Steve pulled off all the 3M film from the front of the coach - my "help" was starting corners where I could and manning the steamer we used to soften the adhesive.  It took him 5 hours and he can barely use his hands now (I hope he doesn't drop his beer on his keyboard).  Goo Gone didn't do much on the residual adhesive, unfortunately, so we'll deal with that in Nac.  We managed to get all the plastic film itself off (well, except what's underneath the mirror mounts) with only 2 small paint chips (and the "Foretravel" and "U320" raised gold decals coming off the front of the coach (the gold decals were put on over the film).  Very hard work, especially in 50 degree overcast weather, but our shop rate is much less than FOT's for what we can do ourselves (ask Kent ;) ) and we want to get Armor Coat on the front of the coach as part of the headlight conversion.  Maybe we can get the new font "Foretravel" for the front of the coach.

Steve also reinstalled the final 2 walnut window returns (side pieces) that had to be trimmed down to make room for the new style MCD mechanisms.

I sanitized the fresh water system (well, chlorinated it.  It needs to sit overnight), and loaded a few things for the weekend trip to Nac, particularly the interior cleaning paraphernalia.

All caulk has limited shelf life but I suggest trying a urethane or waterproof urethane/acrylic caulk rather than silicone. Urethane has much stronger adhesion to most surfaces and excellent elongation. Make sure the surface to receive the caulk is really clean. Denatured alcohol is a good solvent/cleaner for most surfaces.

Good quality, properly installed caulk should last ten years or more.
