Replaced the ooold ShurFlo fresh water pump with Aquatec 550-ES. Attached new pump to old fittings with "soft loop" hoses. Turned on the pump and thought something was wrong. I couldn't hear it running. Nice! Replacement was easy. I chose the smaller Aquatec pump so old wiring was adequate. How will I know if there is a leak if I can't hear the pump running? ;D I think we can become accustomed to the quiet pump.

Put a bypass plug in the ADC filter fitting. We use RO filtered water throughout the coach.

Changed the shower head for one from RV Water Filter Store. We'll see how that works.

Loaded up for a trip to Missouri to visit the grandchildren. (We hope to travel and visit without the added excitement provided by tornadoes, hail, and other bad stuff.)

FINALLY installed the last seven red LED clearance lights on the back end and back corners!!
Now all clearance lights are LEDs Anyone know the amp draw for four LEDs as opposed to two 192 incandescent bulbs? Just curious as to how much drop in requirement. Also will probably never again have to replace any of these lights, short of catastrophic failure due to physical damage.

Howdy nitehawk,
I recently completed replacing all my marker lites with LEDs.  Although mine were 194s.  Assume 192s would be similar.  194 pull .27 amps  Sylvania 34761 194 Light Bulb - Buy 3.78 watt (.27 AMP) 14 volt T3.25 Wedge Base

leds pull .030 amps (30 milli amps)  WLED-x6 (194 type) Wedge Base bulbs Specifications

so 4 leds = .12 amps, 2 194s = .54 amps.
I'm really pleased with the outcome..Replaced all the lens at the same time..< $100 total.

RE: How will I know if there is a leak if I can't hear the pump running?

We have an electronic sounder in our kitchen that has a soft beep whenever our water pump is running. It lets us know if we have a an unexpected leak or faucet open. There is a switch to turn off sounder if we want. We installed the sounder after we purchased a very quiet pump. The sound has helped us several times.

Today I washed the 3126 Cat motor.  It was over due for a cleaning. I spray it down with about half a can of "Scrubbing Bubbles" and then hose it off well.  This works on dust and dirt. 8)

I tripped to Athens, TX. Home of M & G Engineering, makers of a supplementary braking system. It was  a good visit. Talked with Mike, the installation Mechanic.
Visited the Mock up of the system. Watched it do it thing of applying the towed brake in proportion to applied motorhome braking.
Mike showed me exactly what and how he would install the system, in 1 to two hours ($200.00).
Had a very good "brunch" in Mabank TX. Good old GI SOS & biscuits. Got Fried pies to go, Blueberry and Peach.
A worthwhile trip.  Eat you heart out Fave Cobb !

Learned not to believe the air filter restrictor gage on my new to me u320.

Restriction gauge said air filter was fine.  Cummins mechanic pulled it out and the dirt fell off on the ground.

M11 used to shift at 1400 rpm full throttle. Now 1700 in lower gears.

Also water in fuel separator. Do not put away a diesel without filling the tank to avoid condensation in the tank was my experience.

Idle was set too low at 650. Now at 750 and with a new air filter coach idle is very smooth and much faster.

Replaced the U-line ice maker head. The old one worked great but was shedding its coating in the ice tray with the ice cubes. New one was $165.00 on ebay. Works great. Good to go for another 14 years.

Replaced three still good megaton ll interstate flooded batteries with three optima red tops for engine starting.  anyone need three?

Replaced April 1997 2.8 gpm coach water pump with a new shureflow 5.2 pump.  Massive

Had my mechanic friend install a new 120 watt large solar panel that showed on its controller to be charging a 8 amps.  Ran the  wires into the refer compartment to the 8 gauge wire that feeds the refer seperate from the house shutoff switch.

Obviously this 102k mile 1997 with 720 hours on the gen was hardly ever dry camped.  Only hooked up.

Reinstalled motosat controller verified it's operation.  Reset inverter breaker that runs front tv outlets.  Old tv works but it's going......

Need a dish network sat box.  I know very little about which one and need advise maybe?

Buzzing noise in Trekmate alarm brain.  Anyone seen this?

Bob,

You will be happy with the upgrade to the Optima starting batteries-- we have used them for over a decade.  2 of their 800 CCA's in parallel really turn over our "little" Caterpillar.  Three in parallel will give you 2,400 CCA's and should be perfect for your M engine.

Today I added a few things to this year's dynamic "to do" list and researched them for purchase when we get home next week.  Tires (5 1/2 years old per date code, installed back in March 2007, starting to show some tiny cracking), TPMS, rear ladder "plastic ends and screws" since Brett pointed out some cracking while we were in Kerrville together.  And calling US Gear tomorrow to find out how to reattach the manual lever to the tow brake controller (it popped off and there's no obvious way to reattach it).

Installed a Tire Traker extender and also installed a Trik-l start finally.  We have a bedroom slide so, locking down the engine cover between the closet and the bed probably took longer than the install.  Anybody have any tricks for locking down the engine cover?

Definitely spins over faster.  I used to go into winter.  The old oreds did not like 30 below.  This one I think could actually do such a thing if I was dumb enough to do it again.  300 cat barely turned over in Colorado.  Took a jump from the ski resort grooming unit to start the gen and ether start for the cat after block heating.  Tanks finally froze.  Went to Phoenix to unthaw the frozen tanks.  Propane regulator froze.  This was in 1988.

Drove from telluride to southern California straight through.  That coach got 8mpg at 90mph at 3000 rpm floored. Was in a hurry.  Wife coughing as cold weather finally got us.
Slid it out partislly in a intersection on the brakes in wet ice.  Take foot off brake and the back tucked in.  Whew...

On my 1995 270, replaced the o-rings in the slightly leaking kitchen swivel faucet.  Good thing I stayed parked in the Lowes' lot at ABQ as the packet of faucet fittings only had one o-ring of the proper size.  I trundled back in to buy another as the faucet requires two.  This old thing still wants to do 70+ unless in have it on cruise control.  I guess we will keep it as the "selling value" is far below what we think it is worth to our lives....  andy1

Here is a job that anybody can do on a rainy day. I replaced all the felt bumpers on every door and drawer in the RV. I found many missing, a few new ones and many very old ones. All the doors and drawers close nice and quite now. It took over 200 of them to do all of them. I also treated the walnut finish with Old English dark stain and scratch remover. I am in awe of the craftsmanship that went into the wood work in the Foretravel's. They still look new after 15 years.

Also replaced rear radio antenna that had been broken off by previous owner. The antenna is a 31 inch universal antenna w/ heavy duty stainless steel support w/ spring. For those that might need one here is the Model number, 44US71.I got it through CB World in Albany, Or. for about $16.00.

When we bought our U225 it was the end of November and we drove it home in December (through the Cascade Mountains). All this time I have been wondering if the air conditioner units (Dometic) would work but had to wait for warm weather in order to find out. Today the temps got up into the upper 80s so I put both A/Cs on "auto" and turned on first the front and then the rear. About 5 minutes later they were both pumping out cold air.

And about 85db of noise. (Sigh)

At least they work. :)

Changed oil and filters on both engine and generator, greased chassis and brakes...yes, with proper grease. First time i had greased brakes since i have owned the coach (5 years) and :-( sigh, found they had been given a shot of the wrong grease sometime in their past...some odd colored old grease came out anyway. Got it all pushed out, ran the slack adjusters full travel both ways a couple of times, should be good for another 5 years. (or more)

While greasing, noticed driver side wheel seal was seeping, so got new seal and installed it...whew, what a day. (those hub/rotor assemblys don't get any lighter as years go by ??? )

Ralph,

Wow-- replacing front hub seals is quite a job.  You must have an impressive shop to include equipment to check bearing end play.

Fuel door was warped badly and no longer available so I welded a stiffener and pop riveted it on the inside of the door and this straightened the door out. Replaced a leaking no-longer-spinning tank flush attachment with newer style. Turns out P.O. apparently caulked the spinning part in an effort to reduce leaking. Hopefully we now will have better rinsing action. Next project is to resolve non-functioning fuel gage. It quit completely on the way home this March. Loss of ground?? Sender unit bad? I'm going to find out!!

Brett....no not real impressive, a good magnetic base and a dial indicator will take care of the end play/preload thing. I'm old school i guess, but i still like the "preload by feel" method...you can just tell when it's right. I had more trouble finding a suitable "driver" to seat the seal than anything else, don't normally deal with anything that big....

I would guess bad sender as they seem to go bad quite a bit, as I have changed a lot of them, Hope your tank is not all the way full.
